Altea is a town on the Mediterranean Coast, of some 20.000 inhabitants, 50 km from Alicante and 140 from Valencia. Traditionally dedicated to fishing and farming, it's main feature is the beauty and extraordinary conservation of the Old Town, built on a hill for defense reasons in ancient times. Altea lies in one of the principal touristic areas of the Valencian Community, however, the sort of tourism found here, mostly residential and not massive, has allowed the town to keep its charm.
